How to screen record on iPhone, Mac, Android and PC

Video has become a much larger part of our lives in recent years. It used to be that people just wanted to take a screen shot or print screen. But things have moved on and now it’s all about video. You might want to show your friend how to do something, or you might want to share a clip of an interesting moment in your life with them.

This guide outlines how you can record your screen on a variety of platforms.

iPhone (iOS 11 or later)

  1. Go to Settings à Control Center à Customize Controls, then tap ‘+’ next to Screen Recording.
  2. Then swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen. For users with an iPhone X or later or iPad with iOS 12 or later, swipe down from the upper-right corner.
  3. Press deeply on circle button and tap Microphone.
  4. Tap Start Recording, then wait for the three-second countdown.
  5. You will have to open Control Center and tap the circle or tap the red status bar at the top of your screen to stop recording.

Your video will be stored in the Photos app.

Mac

Launch QuickTime Player, select File à New Screen Recording. A panel will appear and you’ll be able to record your screen from here. Once done you’ll have to preview and export your clip.

Android

Currently the easiest way to record a screen is probably through an app. Android does have a way to do it, but it is a little complicated. You can read a guide from Android Authority here. Hopefully it will be added in a future update, so users of Samsung Galaxy, Huawei, HTC, LG or Sony can easily tape their screens.

For now though, your best bet is to download one of these apps from Google Play:

  • AZ Screen Recorder
  • DU Recorder
  • Mobizen Screen Recorder

There are many others too if one of these isn’t available.

PC

Windows 10 has a built-in game bar for screen recording.

  1. Open the Xbox app (if you search for it, it will be there, we promise!)
  2. Press the Windows Key + G on your keyboard
  3. Click ‘Yes, this is a game’.

You’ll then be able to start recording whichever window/program you chose as a game. If this doesn’t work for you, there are apps out there for screen recording too, just be sure to download from a reliable and trustworthy source.

So that’s how you can screen record. If you’re on mobile however, there are some apps that will notify people that you are recording.

  • For instance, if you are using an iPhone or Android, Snapchat will tell users that someone has recorded their clip.
  • Instagram is the same. If you use the screen record feature to video someone’s Stories, it will notify them. This is also true of taking a screenshot.

That’s why you should be careful when using the screen record feature. It is helpful, but there are things you should be aware of. If you have any questions about this, or any other topic, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
