How do I change my Facebook advertizing preferences?
Facebook is the world’s most popular social network, but it’s also a massive data hub. Naturally, this information can be useful to advertisers. If you use the site, you’ll notice adverts popping up on your newsfeed.
Did you know there are reasons you see adverts showing up in your newsfeed? Facebook decides the sponsored content you see based on things it knows about you – the pages you interact with, the newspapers articles you share and so on. Someone who likes a lot of content on the Manchester United Facebook page might be shown a lot of commercials for football kits or sport TV subscriptions, for instance.
There is a way you can manage the adverts you see appearing in your newsfeed. When you next see an advert on Facebook, click on the small icon on the top right-hand corner and select “why am I seeing this?” You’ll then see an explanation about why you’ve seen it in your newsfeed and you can remove yourself from audiences shown that ad.
You can also click on “manage your ad preferences” to adjust what you see. You can access this option by going to your settings, clicking on “Adverts” and changing your preferences. However, remember that this won’t mean you’ll see fewer adverts – it’ll just mean the ones you see will be much different.
