Facebook rocket icon: what is it and what is it for?
A select number of Facebook user has recent seen a rocket icon pop up in their apps. It looks like this:
Facebook is always rolling out new features, and it’s a new idea that the company hopes will lead to a more engaging experience for their users. Here is their official statement on the icon:
“We are testing a complementary feed of popular articles, videos, and photos, customized for each person based on content that might be interesting to them. We’ve heard from people that they want an easy way to explore new content they haven’t connected with yet.”
It’s not available for everyone yet, so don’t worry if you can’t see anything. It’s located at the top of the app between the home and notification buttons. If you click the rocket icon you will be taken to a feed similar to the “Explore” menu in Instagram that shows you a variety of stories, some trending, some based on what you like.
The rocket icon might develop into a complementary newsfeed where you can read a wider variety of stories, and still have access to a feed from your friends too. But no one can say for sure until the change is made official. Have you seen the rocket icon in your app? If so, let us know what you think about the new feature.
