How to connect Amazon Echo to Apple Music, Spotify and more

The Amazon Echo has got thousands of skills and perhaps some of its most useful are the ones that let you connect your favorite music streaming service to the device. Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal are just a few available and in this guide, we’ll show you how to set-up your Echo so that Alexa can understand your need to hear that classic Nickelback song one more time.

For all of these, you’ll need the Amazon Alexa app on your iPhone or Android.

Apple Music

1. Open the Amazon Alexa app, then tap the three horizontal lines in the upper-left corner.
2. Select Settings.
3. In Alexa Preferences, tap Music.
4. Tap Link New Service.
5. Tap Apple Music.
6. Tap Enable To Use.
7. Then follow the instructions to sign in with your Apple ID.

In the settings on the app you can also make Apple Music your default music service. That way you won’t have to add “on Apple Music” when you ask Alexa to “Play Beyoncé on Apple Music”.

Spotify

Very similar to Apple Music, you just need to:

1. Tap the menu in the top-left.
2. Tap Settings, then choose Music.
3. Select Spotify, then Link account to Alexa.
4. Enter your Spotify account details.

As with Apple Music, you can choose to make Spotify the default player too in the settings menu.

Tidal

In late 2018, Tidal was the first music streaming service to be built using Amazon’s self-service Music Skill API Users. If you’re a Tidal user, go to the Music & Books section of the Amazon App and enable the TIDAL skill. Then you just need to link your TIDAL account and you’re done!

Other services

Music streaming services are being added all the time to the Amazon Echo family. You can search if yours is available by:

1. Opening the Amazon Alexa app
2. From the menu, select Settings.
3. Select Music.
4. Scroll to check if the music service you want to add is available.

Then simply follow the on-screen instructions to finish set-up.
